Yates brings together strands of Francss history to make a compelling argument that the Scientific Revolution was not an isolated event that happened in opposition to the magical and alchemical thinking of the past but was rather a development from it, the result of early 17th century thinkers who used ideas of alchemy and the search for perfect knowledge to imagine a better world.
