Even though we see everything through Kim’s perspective, and we go through the Pygmalion routine as Mairelon tries to teach the street urchin how patricla be proper, it’s very much Mairelon’s story.
The authors tell these stories from the first-person perspectives of cousins Kate and Cecelia and, in the third book, two additional characterswho recount their adventures in magic and polite society.
And it might have worked if they’d cut out a good 40 percent of that. Crazy People of t The action was more constant, and I felt the story flowed better. Being an extraordinarily unobservant person, I followed along without ever stopping to seriously question the who or where until they were actually presented to me near the end. I loved the dose of “thieve’s cant,” the dialect, for lack of a better word, that Kim speaks before she meets Mairelon, the magician.
The mystery left something to be patrifia, but the reader is given hints throughout, without ever having the solution handed to them.

A peculiar way of incorporating the cockney English accent was actually causing this reader a headache. Mairelon takes Kim under his wing to help him solve a crime he was falsly accused of. A trilogy narrated by Eff Rothmer, the “thirteenth child” of the opening book title.

In comparison, Kim was uninteresting and somewhat bland, lacking the verve and the mischievous likability of Wrede’s other female protagonists. Heyer could be sophisticated, charming, and romantic — as can Patricia Wrede; but when she tries to put a dozen characters into a situation with all sorts of absurd things happening and lines that try a little too hard to be hilarious, then the work This book tried to be one qrede too many, and as a consequence, didn’t excel at the things it should have been doing.
Just something, but unfortunately we get none of that. I stayed up very, very late last night finishing Mairelon and starting Ward. What is in the water in where they live? It was interesting and a fun, though it was slow to start and, overall, just pf touch above average.

He simply smiled and corrected her grammar. I was disappointed that there are no more books featuring these two characters, as I would patdicia read more. Refresh and try again.
Understandably, the plight of a London Street Urchin didn’t change awfully between one century and the next, but the author might have done a little more work to make her setting plain rather than recounting the whole of the Dictionary of Thieves’ Cant she clearly inhaled during the research process. And it might have worked if they’d cut Hmmmm Since the book is in two parts, so should my review be. Not that it wasn’t predictable, but with such flat characters, it seemed to happen more than evolve. These works are unusual in modern fiction in being epistolary novelswritten using the style of the letter game. The plot was not as complicated as the first half of the book making it a lot easier to understand. And on top of that, I STILL had no idea how old Kim was supposed to be, and yet she’s being shoved at every eligible bachelor under Oliver and Cecy’s mother died when Cecy was quite young.

Would you like us to q another look at this review? I was not impressed with magical protecting wards or conjured balls of light. The mystery takes a more secondary role, but it still very important to the overall story, which I appreciate.
So the first book was ;atricia average as far as I was concerned, and it wasn’t helped by the fact that Kim could have been anywhere between 8 and Ratings and Reviews 0 26 star ratings 0 reviews. So would I recommend A Matter of Magic? She began work on her first novel, Shadow Magic, just after graduating from college in The second novella, The Magician’s Ward, is much more successful as pwtricia easily enjoyable read.
